KVK Ri-Bhoi Organized Training on“Productivity Enhancementof Ginger and Turmeric for Doubling Farmers’ Income”
A 3-days training programme on “Productivity Enhancement of Ginger and Turmeric for Doubling Farmers’ Income” was organized by KVK RI Bhoi, ICAR Umiam, which was funded by CIH, Nagaland from the 30th of July to 1st August 2019. The programme started with an inaugural session on the 30th of July 2019, which was attended by the Director In-Charge, ICAR, Umiam, Dr. K. K. Baruah; the Nodal Officer of KVKs, ICAR Umiam, Dr. A. K. Jha; the Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Ri Bhoi, Dr. M. Mokidul Islam, Dr. Anjani Singh, Horticulture Specialist, CIH, Medziphema, Nagaland as well as the other staffs of the KVK. A group of 26 farmers’ trainees belonging to two different SHG’s from Thadnongiaw and Sohriewblei village attended the three day training programme. The dignitaries present expressed their appreciation of KVK Ri Bhoi for organizing the programme and they also urged the trainees to give their sincerest efforts during the training programme.
During the course of the training programme, the trainees were made aware of new and improved technologies for cultivation of ginger and turmeric including ‘Production Technology of Ginger and Turmeric’, ‘Single Bud Technique of Ginger and Turmeric propagation’, etc. by Dr. Utpal Barua, SMS Horticulture of the KVK Ri Bhoi. The trainees were also given training on courses like organic farming, soil health management, management of pests and diseases, post harvest management and value addition of ginger and turmeric. A practical demonstration on value addition and processed products of ginger and turmeric was conducted for on-hand experience for the farmers.
A valedictory session was conducted on the final part of the training programme which was chaired by the Director, ICAR Umiam, Dr. N. Prakash; the Joint Director, ICAR Nagaland Centre, Dr. D. J. Rajkhowa and the Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Ri Bhoi, Dr. M. Mokidul Islam. The Director, ICAR Umiam expressed his satisfaction at the conduct of the programme and he requested the farmers to give their feedback regarding the programme. A brief report was presented by Dr. Utpal Barua, SMS Horticulture and course director of the training progarmme regarding the activities done under the programme. Certificate of participation were also distributed by the dignitaries during the valedictory session. The programme was concluded by a vote of thanks by Dr. Utpal Barua, SMS Horticulture, KVK Ri Bhoi.
